As an active blood donor, Brittney Holland knows the satisfaction that comes from giving what is essentially the gift of life. Now the Creighton-born University of Saskatchewan student is working to recruit fellow donors through the Partners for Life blood donor program. 'I have never walked out of a blood donation clinic without a smile on my face,' says Holland, 20. 'Giving blood gives you a nice warm, fuzzy feeling.' Holland, an aspiring pharmacist, is so passionate about the cause that she is the liaison between Canadian Blood Services and the university's College of Pharmacy and Nutrition. If she can recruit 25 blood donors by Sept. 2, she will have a chance to receive one of 22 bursaries to help pay for her schooling. Donated by the private sector, the bursaries range from $250 to $1,500. The process of donating blood takes about 45 to 60 minutes. For more information on signing up to donate blood, contact Holland at 306-716-6169 or by e-mail at brittney.lynn.holland @hotmail.com.
