CANMORE, Alta. — Olympic cross-country ski champion Beckie Scott has taken on the job of chief executive officer of Nordiq Canada.

The organization is the governing body of cross-country skiing and para Nordic skiing in Canada.

Scott was the first Canadian and first woman from North America to win an Olympic medal in cross-country skiing in 2002.

It took two and a half years for her bronze medal to be upgraded to gold as two competitors ahead of her were eventually disqualified from the race for doping.

Scott also earned a silver medal in women's team pursuit with Sara Renner in 2006.

Scott has previously served on the World Anti-Doping Agency's athlete and executive committees. She also founded Spirit North, which gives Indigenous youth the chance to pursue land-based sports such as skiing, mountain biking and canoeing.
