The community of Snow Lake celebrated the 26th annual Winter Whoot over the weekend of March 13 to 15, and the weather was both a blessing and a hindrance.
It was certainly great to have the mild temperatures in order to enjoy some of the festival’s many outdoor activities; however, one event, Human Curling, had to be cancelled as a result of the watery surface of Brentwood Rink.
Nevertheless, everything from Friday’s Ice Worm Hunt to the Sunday’s Hall Activities went off without a hitch and all were thoroughly enjoyed by participants and spectators alike.
Friday night saw the Third Annual Mark Gogal Memorial Road Hockey Tournament take place on Main Street in front of the establishment that sponsors the crowd favourite, The Snow Lake Motor Inn.
The Brad Gogal led team of Karl Menge, Cory Lobert, Jackie Schollie, Rudy Pegg, Ross Schellenberg, and Brad Hamilton won the 10-team event.
Of note, a team led by Brad Gogal won last year as well.
Saturday night’s Winter Whoot Supper was also a welcome and well-attended occasion. Two-hundred people took in the ‘Whoot Feast’ and in the process were witness to some fine entertainment from Seanster and the Monsters, as well as the Bubbleman!
My Take on Snow Lake runs Fridays.
