An exploration project announced by the Saskatchewan government is moving ahead.
Partners and budget details are coming together for the Targeted Mineral Development Strategy, announced in the government’s Throne Speech last October.
$1 million was allocated from Saskatchewan’s provincial economy ministry in February to fund aerial geophysical exploration around Creighton and northeast Saskatchewan.
The province is currently undergoing a tendering process to determine which companies or providers will conduct the work. Budget information for the project is still under development but, according to the Throne Speech, the investment will not cover the complete cost of work.
A spokesperson from the Ministry of Energy and Resources said the project is designed to improve northern mining prospects and fill gaps with existing geophysical data.
“Our aim is to focus on areas of perceived mineral potential for which there is no preexisting comparable geophysical data,” said the spokesperson in a statement issued to The Reminder.
No further mining-related projects have been discussed since the original announcement.
