A Flin Flonner received a pat on the back from the provincial government after a large donation to the Lord's Bounty Food Bank last month.

Tommy Barr received a shoutout from provincial chief nursing officer Lanette Siragusa during the provincial government's April 4 COVID-19 report. Barr, who had planned a trip to Australia and New Zealand before cancelling it due to the global COVID-19 outbreak, donated the money he had set aside for the trip - $5,000 in total - to the food bank.

“Within days, he found a way to turn the situation around and do something amazing for the community he lives in,” Siragusa said.

“Tommy’s contribution accounts for almost a sixth of the food bank’s budget for the full year.”

The donation, which was officially made on St. Patrick's Day, was covered by The Reminder. A photo of the donation itself can be found on the front page of The Reminder's April 1 edition.

“Tommy’s contributions will allow the food bank to continue to help those in need during this challenging time,” said Siragusa.

“I want to say thank you very much to Tommy and thank you to all the Manitobans who are doing what they can to help the less fortunate right now.”
