QMJHL Roundup: Fauchon scores 44th of season, Océanic edge Phoenix 5-4

RIMOUSKI, Que. — Jonathan Fauchon had a goal and an assist as the Rimouski Océanic edged the Sherbrooke Phoenix 5-4 on Wednesday night in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.

Fauchon's 44th of the season gave the Océanic a 4-3 lead at 4:03 of the third period.

Anthony Gaudet then scored his first of the season at 5:18 to make it 5-3.

Eriks Mateiko, Jack Martin and Connor Sturgeon also scored for Rimouski, which is second in the Eastern Conference and the league behind the Moncton Wildcats.

Pier-Olivier Roy pitched in with two assists. Mathis Langevin stopped 15 of 19 shots before William Lacelle entered late in the third and stopped all five he faced.

Thomas Rousseau, Mavrick Lachance, Félix Ouellet and Charles-Antoine Beauregard replied with goals for Sherbrooke. Linards Feldbergs made 15 saves.

Rimouski is hosting the Memorial Cup from May 22 to June 1.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, Anthony Flanagan scored twice and the Charlottetown Islanders beat the Halifax Mooseheads 5-3, Iain Wintle made 34 saves in a 2-1 Gatineau Olympiques win over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, and Lars Steiner had a goal and an assist as the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies defeated the Val-d'Or Foreurs 6-4.
