HAMILTON — The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have added a pair of American quarterbacks to their roster.
The club announced Sunday it has signed former Montreal Alouettes QB Matt Shiltz and Jamie Newman, who spent last season with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles.
Shiltz played 11 games for the Als last season, completing 49-of-79 pass attempts for 760 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. He also had 18 carries for 85 yards and a rushing TD.
The 29-year-old from St. Charles, Ill., has spent all three seasons of his CFL career in Montreal, and previously played four years at Butler University.
Newman signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent after three seasons at Wake Forest University where he played 21 games, completing 306-of-506 passes for 3,959 yards, 35 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. The 24-year-old native of Graham, N.C., also had 245 carries for 826 yards and 50 rushing TDs.
The Ticats locked up their starting QB last month, signing Dane Evans to a contract through the 2023 season.
