A pair of hockey schools are coming to town in the coming weeks for minor hockey players.

The Whitney Forum will play host to both schools, operating in mid-August before the season kicks off in earnest.

The first of the two schools is the Daniels Hockey School, which will take place at the Forum August 14-16. Hosted by members of the Daniels family - former NHLer Scott, former Harvard Crimson captain, Team USA international player and current Winnipeg Jets scout Sydney and former SJHLer Colby - the school will cover on-ice training and off-ice sessions, including instruction on nutrition, education and mental performance.

The Daniels camp includes sessions for under-13 (atom and peewee age, 7-12) players and for under-18 (bantam and midget age, 13-18) players alike. Registration can be done at the Daniels Hockey website at danielshockey.com.

Following the Daniels camp will come the Flin Flon Xtreme Hockey School, returning for its 24th year and featuring several past and present Bomber players. The school will include a junior program for kids ages six to nine, an intermediate camp for kids ages 10-13, a skills development camp for ages 12-15 and a conditioning camp for kids ages 14 and up. Each of the four camps will run from August 21-24.

After the initial four camps will be two days of specialty clinics August 26-27, covering power skating and shooting and stickhandling.

Bomber head coach and general manager Mike Reagan will conduct the camps, alongside Bomber assistant coach Cole McCaig, former Bomber Cole Duperreault, Flin Flon-raised WHL player Justin Lies and current Bomber players Aiden Chow, Harmon Laser-Hume, Joey Lies, Kenny Marquart, Kylynn Olafson, Cole Tanchuk and others.

The camp will start with a registration skate August 20 at 7 p.m. Interested parents can enroll their kids in the camp by contacting Reagan at [email protected].

The Flin Flon Minor Hockey Association season will begin with a 3-on-3 season opening jamboree at the Forum Sept. 10, a one-day exhibition tournament open to all players in northern Manitoba. Two divisions will be held, covering under-9 and under-15 players. Registration can be done at the FFMHA website at flinflonminorhockey.com. Registration for the season can also be done on Flin Flon Minor Hockey’s website or Hockey Canada page, with a $100 early bird discount for registrations done before Sept. 18.
