A late goal by Trent Cassan pushed the Yorkton Terriers over the Flin Flon Bombers by a score of 8-7 on Sunday afternoon. For the second game in a row, the Bombers found themselves battling up hill for nearly 60 minutes, as they erased 3-0 and 6-2 deficits. The Terriers took control of the game at the midpoint of the first period, scoring three unanswered goals to jump ahead 3-0. Justin Keller scored at 11:27, followed by a power-play marker at 14:42 by Josh Cudmore and Trent Cassan's first of the game at 16:16. A timely power-play goal by Joey Moggach turned the game around for Flin Flon with 17 seconds remaining in the period, with Conrad Wilgenbusch and John Iron assisting. Kyle Holmes set up Donald Milburn for his third goal of the season at 7:21 of the second period, and the Bombers looked to be in control. The comeback attempt was deadened with three more Yorkton goals in a span of 2:31. Jason Beatty beat goaltender Paul Reimer at 8:21, and for the second consecutive game, the starting goaltender for the Bombers was chased from the net. Brett Koscielny, who was replaced by Reimer in Tuesday's game against Nipawin came in to try and stop the bleeding. It took another minute or so before the Bombers would settle down, as Evan Debert scored at 9:37, and Jason Wagner netted his fifth goal of the season on a power play at 10:52. A power-play goal by Andrew Skrabek put the Bombers back on track, with Joey Moggach and Conrad Wilgenbusch assisting at 13:16. Skrabek netted his second goal of the game from Moggach at 14:54 to make the score 6-4 heading into the third period. Derek Gallagher's five-on-three power-play goal from John Iron at the 1:08 mark of the third period had Flin Flon fans believing that a comeback might be in the cards, and Conrad Wilgenbusch's first of the season at 2:43 tied the game at 6-6. The power-play goal was assisted by Jeff Lapointe and Donald Milburn. The Terriers weren't done yet, as Sheldon Dubnyk scored to make it 7-6 at 8:46. With time running out, Craig Parks scored on a power-play at 19:02 to tie the game once again, with Donald Milburn assisting, and it looked like the Bombers would steal a point from the Yorkton Terriers. It wasn't meant to be, however, as Cassan netted his second goal of the game at 19:29 to seal the victory for the hometown Terriers. See 'Exciting' P.# Con't from P.# With time expired and tempers flared, Flin Flon's Daryl Fransoo and Derek Blais got into a scuffle with Yorkton's Andy Chipelski and Jason Beatty. Andy Chipelski was nabbed for being the instigator of the whole thing, and Gross Misconducts were handed out to both benches. Flin Flon's Brett Koscielny was also penalized for spearing A number of misconducts were handed out, and suspensions are likely to be handed out after the incident is reviewed by the league president later this week. Yorkton out shot Flin Flon 44-31, including 20-9 in the first period. The Bombers did most of their scoring on the power-play, scoring five goals on seven chances with the man-advantage. Their penalty killing was less efficient, allowing two goals on only four chances for Yorkton. In the last two games, the Flin Flon Bombers have managed to score 12 goals, but have come away empty handed, allowing a total of 14 goals against. Obviously the problem hasn't been finding a way to score goals, the Bombers just haven't figured out how to prevent them. Both the forwards and defence have contributed a great deal to putting the puck in the net, and a lot of credit for that goes to the power play. Out of Flin Flon's 37 goals scored this season, 17 have come on the power play. The Bombers lead the league in that respect, operating at 30.9% efficiency. For the past two games, the Bombers' woes lie in protecting their own end. Flin Flon can't afford to be fancy in their defensive zone. If the Bombers want to have success this season, they will have to improve as a team defensively. However, the Bombers have not been healthy yet this season, and have been missing veteran Simon McCusker for the past two games. Offensively, veteran defencemen Conrad Wilgenbusch and Derek Gallagher have contributed a great deal, but will have to step up defensively and set and example for the younger players like Daryl Fransoo and Erik Knutson. The Bombers were in Melville on Monday to take on the Millionaires (results not available at press time) and will finish their three-game road trip in Nipawin tonight. They will return home for a pair of games against Melville on Friday and Saturday.
