The lineups for the 2004 NHL All-Star Game were announced last week. Nine first-time all-stars will head up the Western lineup, while in the East, six players will be making their all-star debuts. Here are the players that will take to the ice for the main event, Sunday, February 8, 3 p.m., at the Xcel Energy Center, St. Paul, Minn. East The starting lineup in the East includes three members of the defending Stanley Cup Champions the New Jersey Devils. Defence wins championships, and the East will hope the same is true for all-star games, as goaltender Martin Brodeur and the defence pair of Scott Stevens and Scott Niedermayer will defend for the east. Up front, Boston centre Joe Thornton, Atlanta winger Ilya Kovalchuk and Tampa Bay winger Martin St. Louis will lead the attack. In the reserves, three members of the defending President's Trophy winners the Ottawa Senators will be joining the starters. Goal potent wingers Marian Hossa and Daniel Alfredson will be joined by defenceman Wade Redden. Veteran center Mark Messier was somewhat of a surprise addition, and will be making his 15th All-Star appearance. Representing the Toronto Maple Leafs will be centre Mats Sundin and winger Gary Roberts. Rival Philadelphia also had two players named to the roster, centres Jeremy Roenick and Keith Primeau. Goalie Jose Theodore and defenceman Sheldon Souray will represent the Montreal Canadiens. Jaromir Jagr, formerly of the Washington Capitals, will join former teammate Robert Lang. The two combined for 92 points before Jagr was send to the New York Rangers last week Making their first appearances will be defenceman Adrian Aucoin, representing the New York Islanders. Nick Boynton of the Boston Bruins and Florida goalie Roberto Luongo. West Starting in net for the Western Conference All-Stars will be Dallas goalie Marty Turco. Colorado defenceman Rob Blake and Detroit defenceman Nicklas Lidstrom will start on the blue line, while, Vancouver forward Todd Bertuzzi and forwards Bill Guerin and Mike Modano of the Stars will round out the starting five. Playing in front of their home crowd will be defenceman Filip Kuba and goaltender Dwayne Roloson of the Wild both making their All-Star debuts. Regulars on the Western lineup include Calgary's Jarome Iginla, Vancouver's Markus Naslund, the St. Louis Blues' Keith Tkachuk and Colorado centre Joe Sakic. Making their debuts in the All-Star classic will be Shane Doan of the Phoenix Coyotes, Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings, Patrick Marleau of the San Jose Sharks, Rick Nash of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Alex Tanguay of the Avalanche. A number of defenceman will also be making their first All-Star Game appearances, including Minnesota's Kuba and Nashville's Kimmo Timonen. St. Louis' Chris Pronger will make his four All-Star appearance, while Mattias Norstrom of the Los Angeles Kings is making his second showing. Starters Blake and Lidstrom have combined to appear in 15 All-Star Games. In net, starter Turco is playing in just his second All-Star Game, while Roloson and Nashville's Tomas Vokoun are both making their debuts.
