The Selkirk Steelers won three times in three games during the week ending December 7, extended their winning streak to seven games and maintained their 16 point lead in the Addison Division in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. Selkirk is one point out of first place overall with a 27-8-0 record and one overtime loss, for 55 points in 36 games. The Winkler Flyers also won three times in three games. Winkler is 18-11-1 and has two overtime losses, for 39 points in 32 games. The five-time champion OCN Blizzard leads the Sherwood Division and is first overall. OCN is 26-5-2 and has two overtime losses in 35 games. The Neepawa Natives are 19-13-1 and have three overtime losses, for 42 points in 36 games. The Swan Valley Stampeders and Portage Terriers are tied for third in the Sherwood Division with 41 points each. Swan Valley had three wins in three games to extend its winning streak to six games. Swan Valley has a 19-9-2 record and one overtime loss in 31 games. Portage is 19-12-2 and has one overtime loss in 34 games. Matt Johnson had one goal and two assists December 2 in Selkirk's 5-2 win over the Winnipeg South Blues on home ice. Goalie John Douglas had 20 saves December 5 in Selkirk's 2-1 win over Neepawa on home ice. Kyle Howarth scored three times and added one assist December 7 in Selkirk's 9-7 win over the Southeast Blades on Southeast's home ice. Teammate Neil Dawson contributed two goals and two assists. Goalie Ryan Yusishen made 43 stops December 2 in Winkler's 4-3 win over Southeast on Southeast's home ice. Chad Wrixon had three goals December 6 in Winkler's 7-4 win over Southeast on home ice. Brandon Heck accumulated two goals and two assists December 7 in Winkler's 5-0 win over Winnipeg South on home ice. Goalie Matt Neufeld had 29 saves for Winkler. John Romic and Jared Lang had two goals each December 2 in OCN's 9-3 win over the Dauphin Kings in Dauphin. Veteran Michael Young totalled two goals and three assists December 5 in OCN's 12-3 win over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on home ice in The Pas. Romic contributed two goals and two assists. League-leading scorer Aaron Starr chipped in with four assists for OCN. Starr, 20, leads the league and CJAHL with 41 goals and 75 points in 32 games. Young, 20, leads the league with 45 assists in 33 games. Goalie Darcy Stewart made 32 stops December 3 in Swan Valley's 2-0 win over Dauphin on home ice in Swan River. Ian Lowe had four assists December 5 in Swan Valley's 7-4 win over Portage on home ice. Shaun McIvor scored three times and had one assist December 7 in Swan Valley's 6-4 win over the Winnipeg Saints on home ice. Aaron Hareuther totalled two goals and three assists December 2 in Portage's 6-4 win in Waywayseecappo. Hareuther accumulated two goals and four assists December 3 in a 6-2 win over OCN on home ice in Portage la Prairie. Teammate R. J. Linder chipped in with four assists. Hareuther was chosen the league's Old Dutch player of the week. He had four goals and seven assists in four games. Rookie goalie Stefan Drew had 34 saves December 7 in Portage's 4-0 win over Neepawa on home ice. Greg Goodwin of Neepawa leads league goalies with a 2.85 goals against average and two shutouts in 1,369 minutes. Pierre-Olivier Girouard of OCN leads league goalies with a .917 saves percentage in 743 minutes. Jonathan Meyer of OCN leads league goalies with a 17-2-2 won-lost-tied record in 1,228 minutes. Also, Starr was chosen the league player of the month for November. Starr accumulated 16 goals and 29 points during the month. Dave Grimson of Swan Valley was selected the league defenceman of the month. Grimson had six goals and 10 points in November. Bret Peppler of Swan Valley was picked the league rookie of the month. Peppler led all league rookies with 18 points, including nine goals, in 11 games last month. Girouard was named the league goalie of the month. Girouard had a .924 saves percentage and 2.61 goals against average in November. OCN coach Glen Watson and Selkirk coach Doug Stokes were named the coaches for the Sherwood Division and Addison Division team, respectively, for the Powersmart all-star challenge January 30 in Selkirk. Watson and Stokes earned the honours by coaching their teams to first place in their respective divisions at the halfway stage of the season.
