Creighton’s boys basketball team has won their first tournament of the year, claiming top spot in Nipawin over the weekend.
The senior A Kodiaks started the weekend with a 61-43 upset win over Prince Albert Collegiate Institute, a school with a much higher enrolment than Creighton’s high school. With that win under the team’s belt, the Kodiaks would play the hosts, the L.P. Miller Bears, in an early-morning matchup Saturday. The game was closer than the first one, but the Kodiaks would triumph, earning a 53-46 W.
Earning a spot in the tournament final, the Kodiaks would face off with the Tisdale Tornados for all the marbles. That game, anticlimactically, would prove to be the biggest blowout for Creighton of the weekend, with the Kodiaks’ offence kicking into high gear and earning a 70-42 tournament final win.
Assuming no changes to schedule or circumstances, the senior A Kodiaks will play their next travel tournament early next month in Porcupine Plain.
