The Hockey Gladiators field of 32-fighters for this August's first of a kind fighting extravaganza has been filled with the addition of seven more scrappers this week. The event is slated for August 20 and 21 at the Target Center in Minneapolis. The seven added on Thursday include former NHL bruiser Serge Roberge, a 39-year-old from Quebec City. He had a cup of coffee with the Nordiques in the early 90's. Manitobans will recogniz big Andy Ristau of Winnipeg. The 43-year-old is 6'5, 240 lbs. An on-line poll was held to determine one of the seven and that honor went to Eddie O'Toole, a former CIS and current Ontario Senior Hockey League player with Etobicoke. John Hudson will be the hometown favorite as he is the lone scrapper from the greater Minneapolis area on the card. Hudson is a former SJHLer. Rounding out the final seven are 29-year-old Louie Bedard of Monreal; Calgary's Chad Wagner; and Mike Sgroi of Toronto. A back-up list of six was compiled and Brandon hockey fans will recognize the name Ken Fels. The ex-Bobcat was seriously considered to make the grade all along. Other fighters signed up include former NHLers Lyndon Byers, Link Gaetz, Sasha Lakovic, Kurt Hunter, Frank Bialowas, Jason Simon, John Craighead, and Mike Ware. Recent SJHL grad Derek Parker is the lone amateur entered amongst a group of other semi-professionals that include Jordan Roach, Ryan Braun, Dean Mayrand, Mike Gruttadauria, Dana Carnegie, Mark Raiter, Steve Konupka, Corey Bricknell, Brad Wingfield, Jodi Murphy, Steve Bosse, Shaun Byrne, Jason Bone (former Flin Flon Bomber), Jamie Leinhos, and Mike Varhaug. A tournament draw, outlining player match-ups will be available on the website (http://www.hockeygladiators.com) by mid-June. In other Hockey Gladiators news, the pay per view television agreements are in place for a North America-wide audience on Saturday, August 21st with the start time slated for 6 p.m. CST. 1/6/04
