Hapnot and Creighton’s girls’ basketball teams finished well in last weekend’s Hapnot Invitational tournament.

Both Hapnot’s junior and senior varsity teams took part, as well as the Creighton Kodiaks’ girls’ side.

The senior Kweens started off the tournament with a commanding 70-19 victory over The Pas’ MBCI Spartans. Hapnot kept rolling with a 52-12 win over Oscar Lathlin Collegiate, putting them in the tournament final.

Creighton had a good chance of making the tournament final as well, topping Norway House’s HBOIERC Huskies 54-27. However, the Kodiaks’ title hopes were dashed with a 72-39 loss to the Swan Valley Tigers.

The Tigers and senior Kweens met in the tournament final. In a close, spirited matchup, Swan Valley finished up with the win, 47-42.

Hapnot’s second-place finish was the highest spot in the standings occupied by a team from the area.

Creighton earned third overall in the tournament, beating OCN’s Oscar Lathlin Collegiate 66-59 in the third place game.

The junior Kweens lost their first game against Oscar Lathlin, but beat MBCI 37-35 in the consolation bracket, punching their ticket to the consolation final.

Facing HBOIERC, the JV Kweens won 48-30 to earn the consolation title and fifth place overall, giving them a higher ranking than some senior varsity teams.

Only one boys’ basketball squad was in action last weekend. The Creighton senior B Kodiaks team headed to La Ronge for a tournament hosted by the Churchill Chargers.

The Kodiaks went on to win the tournament, going undefeated in all four games they played. The wins included a 46-45 nailbiter against the host Chargers.
