Hapnot Collegiate honours top athletes

Hapnot Collegiate athletes were celebrated last Wednesday, May 18 at the school’s annual athletic banquet.

Hapnot Collegiate athletes were celebrated last Wednesday, May 18 at the school’s annual athletic banquet.

Through an awards ceremony, coaches recognized the athletes who had shown improvement, demonstrated leadership, and contributed to the success of their respective teams. A number of Hapnot students participate actively in sports outside of school, including cross-country skiing, wrestling and hockey. These students’ achievements were also recognized at the banquet.

Athletic coordinator Amy Olenick said the 2015-16 school year was a successful one for Hapnot athletes, with seven provincially qualifying teams in soccer, volleyball and curling.

The school also hosted players from around the province at two major events: JV girls volleyball provincials, and senior basketball zones.

Olenick said she is grateful to the coaches, parents and officials who keep sports programs going strong throughout the year.

“If it wasn’t for everyone’s dedication to athletics, we wouldn’t be able to provide the many opportunities that the students get to be involved in sport,” she said.
