The Uptown Curling Rink hosted the Seniors’ Curling Bonspiel last weekend, with 14 rinks entering the fun event.

For the men’s and women’s sides, curlers’ names were picked from a hat to establish the teams of four. This gave curlers the opportunity to play with teammates other than those from their regular weekday play.

On the men’s side, skip Derald Groff’s rink, made up of third Bev Baker, second Norm LeClerc and lead Ron Radics, placed first in the Credit Union Event over Dennis Anderson’s rink of third Barry Smith, second Don Logan and lead Wes Hornyak.

Skip Dale Connolly took first place in the second event – the Don Holmes Event – with teammates third Garth Thompson, second Don Rose and lead Steve Shtuka.

The team defeated skip Dave Knutson’s rink of third Ray White, second Rick Jackson and lead Joe Cap for the title.

The third men’s event, the Flin Flon Insurance Event, saw skip Don Hume’s rink – made up of third Don Melien, second Gary Kozar and lead Lawreince Balfour – take first place.

The ladies’ side had three events with skip Judy Black taking first place in the Credit Union Event with help from third Donna Hurst, second Wanda Ginnell and lead Irene Kozar.

Black’s rink defeated skip Joann Palmer’s rink of third Shelley Pelletier, second Nellie Jebsen and lead Dela Chilson.

The Arctic Beverages had skip Evelyn Meyer celebrating a win with third Cindy Rainville, second Yvonne Davis and lead Doreen Gabler.

They won over skip Donna Streitle’s team of third Myrna Agerbak, second Pat Meyer and lead Dennis Rose.

Skip Sue Chrisp and third Betty Fehr, second Angie Persson and lead Gail Baker defeated skip Ann Hardy, third Marlene Anderson, second Katie Anderson and lead Bernice Galay in the Big Dipper Event.

The Seniors’ Bonspiel saw some family connections on display. Irene Kozar’s sons, Gary Kozar and Tom Kozar, participated, as did Nellie Jebsen’s daughter, Shelley  Pelletier.

Jebsen and Pelletier ended up curling on the same team this year.
