Last weekend, January 9 to 11 at Willowpark Curling Rink, the annual Business Bonspiel was held with a total of 18 teams. Curling started on Friday night and went on till Sunday afternoon. There was a break on Saturday night for a social with live entertainment and various singers including Bob Simpson and "Elvis" Gareau. Everyone had a great time. In the semifinals on the A-side the Wal-Mart team of Keenan Kennedy, Terry Kennedy, Theresa MacPhee and Lori Booker defeated the Denare Beach Mechanical team of Laura Abele, Vikki Johnsgaard, Robertine Elliott and Amanda Paranteau. The other A-side semifinal saw the team of Kendall Wall and Pandya, Hugh Quinn, Denise Davis, Kelly Davis and Lorna Quinn defeating the Bulk Bin team of Joanne Palmer, Rhonda Snow, Kathy Moore and Rhonda Scott. In the B-side the Scotia Bank team of Darryl Groff, Barb Groff, Reece Antoniw and Charlyn Sharp defeated the E. W. Distributors team of Ed Sattleberger, Val Wasylciw, Andy Wasylciw and Michelle Graff, in one game, and the other game had the R.J.'s team of Rod Gourlay, Anita Rainville, Chuck Gareau and Addie Boak defeating the Royal Bank team of Michelle Simpson, Lorne Butcher, Yvonne Harvie and Bev Dojak. In the C-side the Super K team of Dave Kennedy, Russ Kennedy, Ray White and Bernice Reimer defeated the Ford 2 team of Andre Baginski, Dwayne Wenger, Penny Parkinson and Dave Evans in one game and in the other game the True North team of Brad Leifson, Robbie Lengyel, Jim Gwynne and Karen Leifso defeated the Kleen All team of Tim Smith, Ryan Hanson, Kelly Mansell and Scott Eastman. The finals were played Sunday afternoon. The main event on sheet three had Kendall Wall Pandya (Quinn) playing off against Wal-Mart (Kennedy). Quinn was actually leading through to the sixth end when Kennedy stole one in the seventh to make the score 5 to 4 for Quinn. Kennedy stole another in the eighth to force an extra end. Quinn needed to hit and stick, but unfortunately for him his rock rolled too far and Kennedy stole the game. In the B event with Scotia Bank playing R. J's this game was a shorten version of a regular game lasting only three ends with Scotia Bank coming out on top. In the C event Super K played against True North and again True North was leading in the fifth end but Kennedy (Super K) got two in the seventh after blanking the sixth and then he stole four in the eighth to win the game. It appeared to be a well run bonspiel and everyone seemed to have a good time. Special thanks must go to Karen at Willowpark for her help with the team's names and for doing the presentations.
