As a first-year player at the University of North Dakota, former Flin Flon Bomber Danys Chartrand is striving to contribute in any way he can.
“Danys provides us with a being a great person to our locker room and family,” UND head coach Brad Berry said. “His hard work has allowed him to grow in his development and is a big part of our culture and who we are here at North Dakota.”
As of Nov. 15, the 6-foot-1, 188-pound freshman defenceman has not yet seen action in a regulation game.
However, Berry noted that Chartrand is contributing in other ways. He is battling for playing time on a veteran and talented blue line.
UND was ranked No. 3 in last week’s USCHO.com and No. 4 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.
Originally from Winnipeg, Chartrand had 11 goals and 39 assists in 146 games over three seasons with the Bombers. He was the team’s MVP in 2013-14 and was named the Sherwood Division’s Best Defenceman.
Chartrand has family connections to UND. His father attended the Grand Forks-based school.
Chartrand’s sister, Nik, is one of Chartrand’s fellow students. She previously was a collegiate swimmer with Delta State University.
