The Flin Flon Bombers have suffered two more preseason losses, dropping their first two games at the Innagural SJHL Preseason Scholarship Tournament in Saskatoon. Flin Flon came up short against the Notre Dame Hounds in their first tournament action on Friday night, losing by a score of 6-2. Jeff Kielbratowski and Dan Erlandson both scored goals late in the first period for Notre Dame, before Derek Gallagher got the Bombers on the board at 6:53 of the second period. Stuart Sjoberg assisted on the Flin Flon goal. Jared Seminoff, Dan Erlandson and Bryce Macek tallied for Notre Dame in the second period to make the score 5-1 heading into the third. Craig Parks scored for Flin Flon at 11:30 from Joel Jackson and Matt Jones, but Chad Anderson's goal at 14:05 for Notre Dame capped the scoring. On Saturday, the Bombers faced their Dodge Conference rivals from Melfort. The teams exchanged goals until midway through the third period, where the Mustangs took over. Evan Folden scored the game's first goal for Melfort just 25 secondss into the contest. Derek Gallagher's second goal of the tournament for Flin Flon came on the power play at 3:57. Jeremy Forbes gave Melfort the lead at 4:44, but Tyler Hennessey and Jordan Pidskalny both scored for the Bombers before the period was over to make the score 3-2. Ryan Boak assisted on the Hennessey goal at 14:24, and Pidskalny's effort was unassisted at 16:11. Newcomer Joey Moggach made it 4-2 for Flin Flon at 5:23 of the second period with an unassisted power-play goal. Melfort's Derren Murton cut the deficit to one goal at 6:48, but Quinn McIntosh restored Flin Flon's two-goal lead at 13:36, with Tyler Stinton assisting. Jade Hine scored for Melfort at 15:21, and Byron Garrels' power-play goal at 19:00 knotted the game at 5-5 after 40 minutes of play. Jordan Pidskalny's goal at 2:43 of the third from Kevin Burwell and Conrad Wilgenbusch gave the Bombers a 6-5 lead, but it was the last time Flin Flon would be in front. Jeremy Forbes tied the game at 4:09, and Ted Unrau gave Melfort the lead at 4:47. Joey Moggach's second goal of the game for Flin Flon at 8:04 tied the game at 7-7, but it was all down hill from there, as the Mustangs scored three unanswered goals to win the game 10-7. Ted Unrau scored at 10:44, Darren Murton at 16:09, and Kyle Palmblad finished the scoring at 18:48. The Bombers played Kindersley in their final game of the tournament on Sunday afternoon.
