While the weather didn’t cooperate, organizers still view this year’s Flin Flon Bomber Golf Tournament as a success.
“It went fantastic,” said Tanya Benoit, the team’s marketing coordinator.
The skies were grey over the Phantom Lake Golf Course last Saturday, Sept. 10, but Bomber fans and golfers still showed up to support their team.
Fifteen teams took part in this year’s tournament, each paired with a Bomber player.
In addition to the usual round of golf, players took part in a number of interesting side events.
Bombers forward Brandon Lesko won a putting competition held on the ninth hole. Murray Skeavington won another putting competition sponsored by Hudbay.
The winners of the longest drive competition were Brandon Brown and Rona Rideout, while Bombers forward Connor Beebe won a longest drive contest that replaced a club with a hockey stick.
Gary Wickens won the closest-to-the-pin contest.
The tournament is held annually before the start of each SJHL season to raise funds for the club. Benoit and the team were pleased with the dollars generated.
“The numbers are always good,” said Benoit. “The sponsorship in this town is amazing, and people are always willing to come in and sponsor things.”
