Fresh after having their winning streak snapped last weekend, the Bombers got back in the W column Tuesday, winning 4-1 over Yorkton.
No offence came from the first period, but halfway through the second period, the goals started coming and they don't stop coming. Jaxon Martens opened things up at the halfway point of the frame, with Jaeden Mercier scoring again moments later. Captain Zak Smith put a third one past Yorkton goalie Kael Depape on a powerplay, putting the Bombers up 3-0 at the end of the frame.
Mercier would score again early in the third to make it a 4-0 Bomber lead. Zach McIntyre would later get the Terriers on the board, snapping Bomber netminder Cal Schell's shutout bid, but the win was already in hand for Flin Flon.
Schell made 31 saves on 32 shots on the Terriers, while Depape, one of the league's top goalies, had a rare off night, saving only 16 shots.
The win moves the Bombers two points clear of the idle Melfort Mustangs, 58 to 56, putting Flin Flon both in third place in the league and atop the Sherwood division.
According to the league standings by point percentage, the Bombers and Terriers would face off against each other if the SJHL's playoffs were to start today. The Bombers would likely relish such a matchup - Flin Flon has won all three games between the two teams so far this season, by a combined score of 7-1. Schell had shut the Terriers out in both previous games. The Bombers will attempt to sweep the Terriers in the season series in Yorkton Feb. 19.
Meanwhile, the Bombers' four-games-in-five-nights southern road trip continues Wednesday with a road date against the Notre Dame Hounds. After a rest day Thursday, the Bombers will face the league's second seed, the Estevan Bruins, Friday night before a reunion between Drew Kuzma and his former team in Weyburn to end things Saturday.
