Bomber Game Report

The Bombers snagged a 2-1 victory over Humboldt Saturday night, extending their point streak a day after the league trade deadline.

Flin Flon went into the Elgar Petersen Arena with new addition Liam Hunks manning the blueline, just a day after the Bombers picked up his rights from Notre Dame. The new guy made his presence felt almost immediately - working the powerplay with the Bombers up 5-on-3, Hunks scored his first with the team seconds after one of the penalties expired. That would be the only offence from the first period - Flin Flon led 1-0 after 20 minutes.

Humboldt tied the game back up in the second period, with Marik Mamic pulling the Broncos level after a long powerplay sequence in the Bomber end. Flin Flon would pull ahead again late in the period - Ryder Mucha broke free from a defender, cut to the middle and beat out new Bronco goalie Dazza Mitchell with a nifty move, sending the Bombers into the third up 2-1.

That lead would stay for the rest of the night, despite tight Humboldt pressure through the third period. Matt Kieper made several big saves in the third to keep the Bombers up - 15 in total through the final 20 minutes. While Flin Flon had almost no chances late to extend the lead, two goals would be enough.

Kieper got the win with a 26 save effort, while Mitchell saved 42 of 44 shots, but was still stuck with the loss.
