Yesterday afternoon, the Creighton Community School was the scene of the Northern Saskatchewan Student Achievement Awards presentations. The Honorable Dr. Lynda Haverstock, the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, was in attendance to present the Lieutenant Governor's Award of Excellence to Caitlin Bloxom. This young lady has received an achievement award every year that she had attended Creighton Community School. Caitlin's average was a minimum of 90% and her school attendance was 95%. As well as her academic achievements, she also excels in sports and has coached synchronized swimming, has assisted with the Kelly Waterman School of Dance, and is a cheerleader coach as well as a certified life guard. Caitlin is currently attending the University of Manitoba where she is taking her first year of Sciences. Also at the awards ceremony at Creighton Community School was Dr. Dave Williams from the Canadian Space Agency who flew in the Columbia Space Shuttle in 1998. He worked on several experiments for the neuro-lab for the space program researching in how the brain adapts to space travel. Dr. Williams gave a very interesting presentation on his experiences along with many actual pictures he took aboard the Columbia. He certainly had the attention of the students at the school. The following is a list of the students who received Student Achievement Awards during the ceremony which was held in the school's gymnasium: - Creighton Community School, presented by Mr. Terry Brown, the Chair of the Creighton School Board. Grade 7: Billie-Jo Horvath and Drew McCrimmon Grade 8: Amanda Hill and Shawn Wilkinson Grade 9: Quinn Flodell and Melissa James. For the students who have gone on to Hapnot Collegiate, award presentations were made by Blaine Veitch, Superintendent of Schools and John Clark, Principal of Hapnot Collegiate: Grade 10: Kristen Gourlay and Alexander Oberg Grade 11: Edward Drapak and Kathryn Imrie Grade 12: David Gourlay For the students who have gone on to Many Faces Education Centre, their awards were presented by Jim Wilson, the Chair of the Flin Flon School Board and also by Jane Dupre, the Principal of Many Faces. The students were: Grade 9: Kyle Brown Grade 10: Arlene Merasty Grade 12: Jennifer Brown.
