Snow, then deep cold - the Flin Flon area is currently under a snowfall warning for today and later this week as a low-pressure system is set to make a direct hit.

The warning was proclaimed by Environment Canada Wednesday afternoon, with the service saying a low-pressure system coming from the west would bring about 10 to 15 centimetres of snow through overnight Wednesday into Thursday. That snow will affect a band of Saskatchewan and Manitoba covering Flin Flon, Creighton, Denare Beach and others, ranging from as far west as Cumberland House and as far east as Snow Lake.

"Heavy snow will fall north and east of this low, beginning over northwestern sections of the province overnight," reads the warning.

Following that snow, extra cold temperatures diving down well into the minus-30 degree range are expected later in the week throughout northern Manitoba.

"Bitterly cold temperatures will follow the snow in northern Manitoba Thursday night. Temperatures approaching the minus forty degree Celsius mark are possible across much of the region by early Friday morning," reads the warning, which also cautions that road conditions could become difficult because of the snow and cold.

"Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance."
