The Women's Resource Centre recently sponsored two self defense courses for women, held at the Flin Flon Friendship Centre on Wednesday, November 5 and Wednesday November 19. There was about 30 women in total who took the courses. The instructors were Neil Crawford and Cal Brown from the North of 54 Karate Club. These women were taught how to stay in charge even in the event of a anticipated "attack". The techniques that they were taught could result in the attacker's death and the women were told that if not used in a self defense mode they could be charged. Also the women were taught how to avoid such instances from happening such as never walking alone, especially at night, checking the back seat of your car "before" getting in although it is a good idea to always leave your car locked and parked under a streetlight. The best advise was for women to use basic common sense to stop an attacker before an attack even begins, to stay calm and to stay in charge.
