Saskatchewan residents will hit the polls next month to decide whether they want to keep Premier Lorne Calvert in power or go in a different direction. Calvert announced yesterday that a general election will be held on Wednesday, November 5. "This election is about important choices," he said in a news release. "Our vision is to make Saskatchewan the most affordable place in Canada in which to live, work and raise a family." Calvert will campaign on a platform that includes wanting to retain young people, building a better economy and upgrading health care. Elwin Hermanson, leader of the opposition Saskatchewan Party, kicked off his campaign in Saskatoon by saying that voters have had enough of the NDP. "Everywhere I go, Saskatchewan people are telling me Ð it's time for a change," he said in a news release. "It's time to end the NDP record of losing people, jobs and taxpayers' money and it's time to elect a Saskatchewan Party government with a real plan to get Saskatchewan growing." Saskatchewan is a divided province when it comes to politics. The governing NDP holds 28 seats, just two more than the opposition. There are four independent seats.
