For sale signs have gone up at the major employers in the eastern Saskatchewan towns of Carrot River and Hudson Bay. Weyerhaeuser Saskatchewan Ltd., a forest products company, is looking for buyers for its sawmill in Carrot River and its plywood mill in Hudson Bay. "Due to the hard work of the people at these mills, these are efficient operations which could have more strategic value to another company," said William R. Corbin, executive vice president for Weyerhaeuser's Wood Products businesses, in a statement. "We will be seeking out prospective purchasers in the weeks and months ahead." There are 118 people who work at the operation in Carrot River, which has a population of about 1,000 people. The workforce numbers 190 at the plant in Hudson Bay, which has a population of about 1,800 people. Both mills were originally built by Saskatchewan Forest Products in the mid-1970s.
