Competition for your grocery dollars will heat up on February 12 when the new Extra Foods grocery store is slated to open. Lori Stene, director of public affairs for the grocer's parent company, announced the opening date yesterday from her office in Calgary. The hiring process for the new store has taken place over the past two days at the Victoria Inn, with dozens upon dozens of applicants putting their names forth for consideration. The store will employ roughly 120 people, according to Stene. She was not able to say how many of those positions will be full-time. The store manager has been hired. Robin Bernhard will make the trip north from Dauphin, where he worked at the Extra Foods store in that community. Work on the roughly 40,000 sq. ft. store is nearing completion. Over the past five months, crews with Winnipeg-based Dominion Construction have erected the store at a pace that has impressed many shoppers.
