Saskatchewan dropped its vaccine eligibility requirements May 4, allowing all people age 18 and up in the Northern Saskatchewan Administrative District to make a COVID-19 vaccine appointment.

Starting at 8 a.m., new changes went into effect Tuesday for the province, including the new 18+ change for the north. The changes - which also allow non-northern residents age 37 and over to get their first dose - will apply to booked appointments, mobile doses, drive-thru or walk-in doses and/or doses in pharmacies.

Another 8,000 appointments were added to Saskatchewan’s Patient Booking System Tuesday morning to cover the anticipated surge in demand.

The change comes just over a week after Manitoba announced similar measures, allowing all people age 18 or higher who live or work in the Northern Health Region (NHR) - including Saskatchewan residents who work in Manitoba - to get their first doses as of April 26.

Saskatchewan residents, including northerners, are allowed through provincial health orders to travel outside their home community to attend an immunization clinic if needed - as long as they limit any stops on the journey to essential purposes.
