Leah Anderson, 15, was home for the holidays from Cranberry Portage’s Frontier Collegiate Institute when she was murdered.
That was in early January 2013 in Gods Lake Narrows. Now more than four years later, a suspect has been arrested.
RCMP announced Wednesday, July 26 they had arrested a 23-year-old Gods Lake Narrows man in connection with the incident. He was not immediately charged. “This is far from over, but this is a good day,” RCMP Major Crime Services Staff Sgt. Todd Doyle said in a press release.
Eight days before the arrest was announced, on July 18, Manitoba RCMP used their social media accounts to reveal new information about Leah’s in killing and to appeal for information.
Leah was found deceased on a snowmobile trail in Gods Lake Narrows on January 6, 2013. Two days earlier, she had left her house for a skating rink.
The condition of her body when it was discovered led to rumours she had been attacked by a wolf or dogs, but RCMP confirmed they were investigating her death as a homicide.
The police investigation included voluntary DNA samples from several residents, numerous interviews and the administration of polygraph tests.
