The president of the Manitoba Nurses Union this week braced the membership for some tough negotiations this year. Maureen Hancharyk said nurses will face a struggle on wage, benefit and pension issues in light of the province's financial hardships. "I can assure you that we are solid, we are united and we have the resources for a fight, if that's what it takes," she was quoted as saying by the Winnipeg Free Press. "We have let the (health) minister know in no uncertain terms that there will be no rollbacks." The union's contract expires in September. The union represents over 11,000 nurses province-wide Ñ 97 per cent of Manitoba's unionized nurses Ñ working in a variety of health care settings.
