An air link between Flin Flon and Saskatoon has hit the end of the runway.
Missinippi Airways has cancelled its thrice-weekly scheduled flights between the two communities, the airline confirms.
Missinippi launched the service on a three-month trial basis on March 2, hoping demand would enable the flights to become permanent.
The service utilized a nine-seat aircraft flying between Flin Flon and Saskatoon every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The flights also connected The Pas to Saskatoon with the aircraft leaving The Pas each morning at 10:30 am and landing in Flin Flon 15 to 20 minutes later en route to Saskatchewan.
Rick Brenton, general manager of the small, First Nation-owned airline, could not be reached for comment.
In a February interview, Brenton was confident the flights would prove successful given the demand for air service to and from Saskatoon.
Brenton expected business from people who need to get to Saskatoon to depart for other destinations. He also saw demand from businesspeople and patients who have medical appointments in the city.
The only non-chartered way to fly from Flin Flon to Saskatoon is to fly to Winnipeg first, Brenton said.
This marked Missinippi’s first foray into scheduled flights in and out of Flin Flon. The airline currently offers service between Pukatawagan and The Pas.
Pukatawagan-based Mathias Colomb Cree Nation owns Missinippi.
