The friendly rivalry between Flin Flon and The Pas will again heat up at the Flin Flon-Creighton Public Library. For the second year in a row, the libraries in the communities will engage in a literary challenge to see which facility can lend out the most books during the month of May. "We're going to try our hardest to win. The Pas is determined that they're going to win, but we're determined to win for the second year in a row," smiled administrator Phyliss Stadnick. Both libraries see the challenge as a fun way to promote reading, and encourage patrons to stop by to check out books, audio books, magazines or videos. So what's on the line with this challenge? Other than community pride, the staff from the losing library will have to cook and serve hot dogs, soda, and cake at a customer appreciation day at the winning library. The customer appreciation day will either be held in Flin Flon or The Pas on Friday, June 18. The losing library will be closed for the day. The stakes related to signing out a book have never been higher. Since May is also ParticipACTION Month, the libraries encourage people not only to exercise their minds by reading, but also their bodies by being physically active by walking, jogging or riding their bikes to their local library.
