It’s a milestone a century in the making.
Hudbay is marking the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the Flin Flon ore deposit this year.
“This historic milestone gives us the chance to mark both the story of Hudbay’s roots and the rich history of Flin Flon,” read a statement from the company.
Following Hudbay’s annual general meeting today, the company will launch projects to commemorate the centennial of the discovery.
That includes an online museum developed with the help of Hudbay employees and the people of Flin Flon.
This “extensive online exhibit” covers the history of the Flin Flon deposit, the company when it was known as Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting and life in the community’s early days.

As well, this September, exactly 100 years to the month that the initial claim was staked, Hudbay will host an event in Flin Flon.
CEO David Garofalo will also unveil a plaque to provide a permanent marker of this milestone in local and company history.
