Curlers making their way to the Flin Flon Curling Club will find a complete facelift for the space above the sheets.
Paint, ceiling tiles, and brand new bathrooms are only some of the upgrades made in the club’s upstairs lounge.
“It means a lot for our spirits,” said Sue Chrisp, vice-president of the Flin Flon Curling Club.
“It was really rundown and now it's completely finished… It says the curtains available for anyone of any age.”
The curling season will kick off Oct. 28 with the first men’s night of the season.
“It was down to nothing,” Chrisp said.
“The ceiling tells all were stained and dirty. Two years ago, the pipes broke, so that had to be fixed. There's holes in the wall from years ago. It’s basically an uplift for 50 years.”
The upgrade was thanks to countless hours of volunteer work.
“I wouldn't want to guess how many man hours and crews and volunteers we've had in there. It's just amazing,” Chrisp said.
“Everybody put in their time just like the old way where everybody helped your club... It was all done by volunteers and of course the construction part was a very fun time, doing it with club spirit.”
Chrisp said the Curling Club was looking to expand events and potentially rent the space in the future. She said the space can fit up to 95 people.
Chrisp is also working on planning the bonspiels for the year. She said there would be a senior men’s and women’s bonspiel in January, a senior mixed in February, and two additional bonspiels in March.
