Fish beware: A major tourism website has given Flin Flon a nod as one of Canada’s top fishing destinations.
The community was one of 15 places across Canada named by travel website Expedia as the Best Places to Fish in Canada in an online post published by the company last week.
Flin Flon was one of only two locations in Manitoba on the list, along with Selkirk.
A short profile of Flin Flon fishing emphasizes ice fishing over summer angling, saying the best time to fish around Flin Flon is from January to April and stating the area is a good spot for lake trout, pike, burbot and whitefish.
Expedia also mentions the annual Flinty Fishing Derby as a major event.
While the article mistakenly lists the location of the event – the derby is held on Lake Athapapuskow, not on Clearwater Lake as the article says – the piece showcases ice fishing around Flin Flon as a “can’t-miss” opportunity for people looking to land the big one.
“We were especially drawn to Flin Flon as an ice fishing destination. The Flinty Fish Derby has great prizes that are definitely worth the trip, and the town’s many amenities make it a great home base to explore northern Manitoba,” said writer Carolyn Albee.
“In a province that’s well-known for ice fishing, we think Flin Flon really stands out,” Albee went on to say.
