Firefighters were baffled this week after responding to a small apartment fire with no obvious cause.

Members of the Flin Flon Fire Dept. were called to 12 Church Street early Tuesday evening after smoke set off an alarm inside one of the five suites.

Firefighters punctured the wall and extinguished the fire, but Cpt. Darren Romo said they never determined what exactly caught fire.

“We couldn’t find the cause of it,” he said, adding that this was likely the first time he had seen this happen in a dozen years as a firefighter.

Romo said the building owner planned to further investigate the origin of the fire.

The tenant of the smoke-filled suite was the only person in the building at the time of the fire. A dog and two cats were also evacuated.

Firefighters spent about two hours at the scene, after which all tenants were allowed back into the building.

Damage to the home was minor, Romo said, consisting of damaged drywall and flooring.
