Nashville Star is the country version of American Idol and Canada has a sole competitor. George Canyon, born in Pictou County, a coal-mining community in Nova Scotia has won his way to the semi-finals. Canyon is one of 20 hopefuls competing at the Grand Ole Opry for the 10 final spots. Being one of the final 10 would mean Canyon will be included on the first episode of the series, which begins airing on CMT on March 7. He'll live in a Nashville house with the other finalists and many cameras for nearly two months. Nashville Star works the same as Canadian Idol, where each week they'll be voted out one by one until only the Nashville Star is left standing. The 33 year-old George, who has been singing since he was a young boy, has a connection to Flin Flon as he is married to a local girl, Jennifer Fehr. George and Jennifer, along with their two children, live in Nova Scotia. So tune in this Sunday on CMT to see if George Canyon makes it into the top 10 of Nashville Star. Something to Ponder: A successful person is a dreamer whom someone believed in.
