Local students got an early Christmas present yesterday courtesy of a Main Street pharmacy. Pharmasave presented to the schools cheques totaling $3,110, money which was raised through an in-store campaign. "These donations allow the schools to do the special extra things that aren't in the normal budgets," said Flin Flon Superintendent of Schools Blaine Veitch. "It can really be used at the local level to address school and student needs." The donation consists of $626 for Creighton Community School; $518 for McIsaac School Ecole McIsaac; $433 for Ruth Betts School; $433 for Hapnot Collegiate; $314 for Many Faces Education Centre; $304 for Parkdale School; $283 for the Flin Flon Guidance Nursery; and $199 for schools in Cranberry Portage. Through its Neighbours Helping Neighbours program, Pharmasave donates one per cent of purchases over $5 to the school of the customer's choice. Since being established in November of 2002, the program has raised $7,294 in cash for the schools and $3,500 in school supplies. The schools use the money to purchase a variety of items, including reading materials, gymnasium equipment and a mascot costume.
