Water bombers soared overhead and firefighters charged into the bush to tackle a wildfire just outside Flin Flon this past Sunday, May 31.
The three-hectare fire burned near Flin Flon on the Saskatchewan side of the border. As of early Monday evening, it was being contained.
Yesterday, burning permits remained cancelled for much of the northwest region of Manitoba, including areas north of Flin Flon and Sherridon, south to Grand Rapids, west to the Saskatchewan border and east to Provincial Highway 6.
In addition, campfires were prohibited between 8 am and 8 pm in Bakers Narrows, Wekusko Falls, Grass River and Clearwater Lake provincial parks.
Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship hoped scattered precipitation in the North would reduce fire danger levels.
As of Monday, there were two other forest fires burning in the region – near Sherridon and near Cormorant – both of which were about 400 hectares in size.
For the fire near Sherridon, firefighting crews and air support were on scene. Near Cormorant, heavy equipment assisted crews and air support with the firefighting effort.
