When Violetta Coe and her son called her husband Allan to tell him she had won the April 19 Western Max lottery, he had a short but descriptive response.

“He asked me if I was sitting down,” Allan said. “He told me what we won, and all I could think of to say was, ‘Bull–!’”.

The Coes became the north’s newest millionaires by winning $1 million with a ticket she purchased at the Creighton Petro Canada station.

“I checked my ticket on the mobile app,” said Coe. “At first, I thought it said $1,000. Then I thought it said $10,000.”

“I called my son over to look at the number for me. He paused a minute, sat down and said, ‘Mom, you won a million dollars!’ We couldn’t believe it.”

The Coes are the first couple to receive a major lottery win in the Flin Flon-Creighton area since Bill McLean won $100,000 through Lotto 6/49 in 2016.

“When Al got home, he looked at me and said, ‘I told you our ship would come in,’” said Violetta. “He was right – our ship has come in!”

As far as the future goes, Vi and Al are keeping their options open. According to a news release from Saskatchewan Lotteries, the Coes have not announced what they hope to do with the money.
