On July 1, Canada Day, the weatherman cooperated and the people came out literally by the hundreds for the free pancake and sausage breakfast that was put on by the Rotary Club at Creekside Park. The breakfast was supposed to be over by 10 a.m., however the line-up was so long that it went on till just after 11 a.m. The Duck Race was underway by the time everyone had finished eating. People were lined up along the creek to watch the "race". The winners were: Karen Branconnier, Jenna Klause, Andy Burbidge, Vada Holland, Monica Lone, Howard Durkee, Susan Fulford, Doris Affolter, Brittany Blackmon and Bev Ginter. The winner of the tagged duck was Anne McMillan from The Pas. Later in the day, Denare Beach was just packed with people! It was so wonderful to see the cars parked all the way back to McSheffrey's on one side and DeJong's on the other from the Main Beach. At last count there were 14 sand sculptures in production on the Main Beach. The winners were: Island Kingdom done by Jessie, Bethany, Joel and Josh Ramshaw along with Tyson Schanowski. Second was the Magic Drip Castle done by Shannon Fisher and third was The Super Duper Awesome Sand Castle done by Ken Sewap, Colton Carson, Brooke Knutson and Faryn Johnsgaard. In the Great Canadian Trivia and Treasure Hunt the winners were: Jessie, Bethany, Joel and Josh Ramshaw with second going to Aaron Watt, Dave Scott and Mel Brough and third place to the Cathcart family of Cindy, Roger, Shawn and Heather. Kids enjoyed the water balloon toss and other beach games as well as free ice cream to young and old kids alike, courtesy of the Steelworkers Union. A great day was had by all who took the time to participate.
