Cable access television will continue to hit the airwaves in Flin Flon, a Shaw Cable spokesperson has confirmed. There had been some speculation in the community that the service might be discontinued with the recent resignation of the local program coordinator. Darryl Schmidt, Shaw's regional system manager for Manitoba, said he's not sure how long it will take, but community programming will resume on channel 11. "We're gathering resumes," he said in a phone interview from Winnipeg. "We would love to have someone hired within a month, it would be great, but that depends on the candidates that we get." Schmidt commented that Shaw sees local programming as a way of serving communities while at the same time offering content its competitors do not. "I think anything that we can do to distinguish ourselves from our competitors is a positive thing, and community programming is one of those things," he said. "The feedback we get from customers is very positive."
