Saskatchewan motorists haven't faced an auto insurance increase in three years, and that's unlikely to change this year. Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) has reported a profit of $20 million for 2003, and the company says all that black ink would make it difficult to ask customers to pay more. "There's no contemplation right now of any application for a rate increase," Maynard Sonntag, the minister responsible for SGI, told CBC. Drivers were pleased to hear the news, but some in the Opposition Saskatchewan Party were not. Some worry that low rates could lead to financial problems in the long run. Last year, the average Canadian driver paid an extra 22 per cent for auto insurance.
