Advance polls are underway in Flin Flon for the upcoming provincial election.
Election day is Oct. 3, but voters both in Flin Flon and elsewhere in the constituency can fill in advance ballots this week in the run-up to election day.
In Flin Flon, voters can cast advance ballots until Sept. 30 at the Elections Manitoba office at 29 Main Street in the upstairs portion of the former North of 53 Consumer’s Co-op building. Votes can be cast each day this week from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
Votes can also be cast all week long in Norway House at the Kinosao Sipi Multiplex, following the same hours - from 8 a.m.-8 p.m through Sept. 30. Advance polls in Cross Lake will take place at the Cross Lake Community Hall until Sept. 28 from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
Elsewhere in the riding, advance polls were only available Sept. 26 from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. in Brochet, Cranberry Portage, Lac Brochet, Leaf Rapids, Lynn Lake, Pukatawagan, Sherridon, Snow Lake, South Indian Lake/O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation and Tadoule Lake.
Most voters will have received ballot information via mail previously this fall.
Come election day, 15 separate polling locations will be open to take votes, each from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. In Flin Flon, two locations will be open - the R.H. Channing Auditorium and the St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church on Centre Street.
Brochet’s polling location will be at the Brochet Community Council Administration Building, while Cranberry Portage voters can cast their election day ballots at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 137 office. The Northlands Denesuline First Nation Band Hall office will be the polling place in Lac Brochet.
The Cross Lake Community Council Hall will be the main polling location in Cross Lake. Leaf Rapids voters will cast ballots at Leaf Rapids Council Chambers and Lynn Lake Council Chambers will be the headquarters in Lynn Lake. Two locations will be used in Norway House - the Kinosao Sipi Mulitplex and the Norway House Community Council Building - and Pukatawagan’s vote will be held in the Mathias Colomb Youth Centre.
The Sherridon Administration Building will host the community’s votes and Snow Lake’s polling place will be at the Laurie Marsh Community Hall. For South Indian Lake/O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation, the polling location will be the Murdo Clee Hall - Tadoule Lake voters can cast ballots at the Sayisi Dene First Nation Council Chambers.
Two candidates are running in the Flin Flon riding - Manitoba NDP candidate Tom Lindsey will be running for this third term in office, while Progressive Conservative candidate Charlotte Larocque will be the sole challenger. The Manitoba Liberal Party did not field a candidate in Flin Flon, nor did any other provincial party.
According to Elections Manitoba, a total of 14,896 registered voters lived in the riding during the 2019 provincial election.
