What do you get when you combine the Canada Day celebrations with the Flin Flon Trout Festival? Fun. Lots of fun. "It went phenomenally well," said a pleased Greg East, president of the 54th Annual Trout Festival. "We felt our attendance was up from last year and folks enjoyed the events, which was what we were hoping for." The weather even cooperated this year with mostly warm sunshine greeting the people who came out to enjoy the wide variety of festival events and attractions. When it did rain later in the day on Saturday, it mainly fell during the evening Fish Fry at the Community Hall where people had gathered to welcome back visiting friends and family, and generally just have a good time together. "It was a great Fish Fry," said East. "It seemed everybody really enjoyed themselves." The main band of the evening was a Fleetwood Mac tribute band, and their music seemed to be the perfect mix to cap off the festival activities. "I also know Rick Hall was delighted with the turnout for the canoe event on Saturday afternoon," mentioned Greg. "And the parade exceeded our expectations. Overall we were more than pleased with how well things went. We had such a great group of volunteers that made it happen for us." East mentioned a highlight for him was at the end of the Duck Race when a young girl was there, all smiles, because she had seen her duck cross the line as one of the winners. "There were lots of smiles, all around," said this year's festival president.
