Vulvapalooza is coming to Flin Flon this Friday. And yes, you heard that right.
The uniquely-named event is a women’s wellness fair organized by the Women’s Resource Centre.
Courtney Gieg, a counsellor with the centre, is a lead organizer for the afternoon event.
“We wanted to empower women in our community,” Gieg said.
“It came from a place of wanting to support women in making informed decisions regarding their health.”
Gieg said visitors to Vulvapalooza will find lots of fun activities, including free drop-in yoga and fitness sessions and a photo booth.
Representatives from local health services, and organizations and businesses that promote women’s wellness, will be on hand to chat with attendees.
“It’s a chance for [women] to see what’s available for their wellness and well-being, self-care, physical and mental health,” Gieg said.
“And it’s a chance to put a face to organizations for whatever they are looking to improve on or need help with.”
Gieg said men, women and children are all welcome to attend, and she is hoping that parents will bring out the kids on the last day of spring break.
“There will be lots of fun stuff going on there that they can do together,” she said.
As for the event’s novel name, Gieg said organizers chose Vulvapalooza because they want to normalize terms for women’s body parts, and, in the interest of health and wellness, encourage women to feel comfortable talking about their own bodies.
Vulvapalooza will be held at the Flin Flon Community Hall this Friday, April 1 from 1 to 4 pm.
