Residents are invited to walk from Creighton to Flin Flon in support of addiction recovery.
Freedom Outreach, the faith-based live-in rehabilitation centre in Denare Beach, will hold its 2016 Walk-A-Thon fundraiser next Saturday, May 28.
Kandie Lagore, an administrator with Freedom Outreach, said the program receives no government dollars and relies on fundraisers to operate.
Participants will meet at Jason’s Tire and Auto in Creighton at 9:30 am. They will walk about six km to the Pentecostal church in Flin Flon, stopping for refreshments at Pioneer Square.
This will mark the fourth year for the walk, which has attracted about 30 participants in years past. A van will travel along the walk route to pick up anyone who is unable to continue on foot.
There is no deadline to register, but Lagore said the sooner the better for collecting pledges. In the past, some participants have signed up the day of the event.
The participant who brings in the most pledges will receive a two-night stay for two people at the Victoria Inn hotel of his or her choice.
Walk-A-Thon pledge sheets are now available at Flin Flon Alliance Church, Flin Flon Pentecostal Church, Cornerstone Community Church, First Baptist Church and the Salvation Army.
Sheets can also be obtained by calling Lagore at 204-271-4403.
