Thompson resident Natashia Moodie will be photographing expectant mothers in Flin Flon this weekend as part of a unique project called The Beauty Within.
Moodie started the initiative in July 2015, when she took part in a maternity photo shoot in the midst of her third pregnancy.
She said the experience altered her feelings about her own body, and gave her self-esteem a huge boost.
Moodie decided that she wanted to share those positive feelings with other expectant moms. She began The Beauty Within as an initiative to make maternity photography more accessible.
Since then, Moodie has conducted two photoshoots in Thompson with photographer Robert Dearden. She aims to create photos that capture the beauty of pregnancy, and help moms-to-be feel good about their changing bodies. The photoshoot is free for the moms.
“The idea is to empower expecting mothers,” Moodie said, “and to establish that network of women helping women with their experiences.”
Moodie has put out a call for anyone who would like to take part in the shoot. She said she will provide participating women with an 8 x 10 print of their choice.
She also hopes to publish an album of the photos.
