The Creighton Community School Playground Committee will assume the reins of a local holiday tradition.
When Creighton’s CADAC addictions counselling centre closed this fall, the status of its Festival of Trees fundraiser was left in limbo.
Now the school playground committee will take over the festival, according to a summary from the Creighton School Division of its latest board of trustees meeting.
The festival will be a “major fundraiser” for the rejuvenation of the Creighton Community School playground, according to the meeting summary.
The festival has run annually since 2007, inviting individuals and groups to enter decorated Christmas trees, wreathes and centerpieces that are displayed and then auctioned off to the public.
The event has typically taken place in late November in the Creighton Community School gymnasium, in conjunction with a home-business show, come-and-go tea and a breakfast with Santa Claus event.
Mamawetan Churchill River Regional Health Authority has taken over counselling services once offered by CADAC, formerly based on Creighton’s Main Street.
